Cystoscopy - This procedure, performed under anesthesia, involves examining the bladder's inner surface (epithelium) with a miniature, fiberoptic camera or "scope" that is inserted through the urethra into the bladder. The cystoscopy is important because it allows your physician to examine the interior of the bladder for cancer or stones. During the cystoscopy, a bladder biopsy may be performed and the tissue sample examined for mast cells seen specifically in interstitial cystitis.
